The alternative to Distance steering

codes is the use of Vacant Number

Routing. This is a form of “Catch All”

routing as it sends any number not

configured on the system to a specified

route, usually a Virtual Trunk route.

Thus the routing of the request is

passed from the Call server to the NRS

for its ultimate destination.

Using VNR can reduce the routing

table/steering codes on the Call server

but it can lead to misdirected calls if

careful attention isn’t paid to the routes

needed.

To configure VNR in the Element

Manager select CUSTOMER / 00 /

FEATURE PACKAGES / PACKAGE

160. Remember to set the number of

digits expected to the correct length to

avoid a long post dial delay.
